Active material
EVEAR Extraction is also deeply involved in the world of biocides through the surprising range of farming and fishing applications, most notably using rotenone and pyrethrum. We have put our know-how to extract tropical plants such as Derris Elliptica or Lonchocarpus Nicou, a molecule nowadays used in the formulation of biological insecticides.
A History of rotenone
Rotenone, discovered thousands of years ago, was mainly used by local people for its characteristic ability to send cold-blooded animals into coma and death. Its properties so deadly to fish ("ichtyotoxic") was exploited by native peoples as their only way of fishing. Derris Elliptica or Lonchocarpus Nicou would be roughly ground up and thrown into the streams and pools, where they would recuperate the poisoned fish. Being biodegradable and sensitive to heat, it was then sufficient to cook the fish to make them edible. Later these insecticide properties were highlighted and exploited.
Our product
Today the product we propose is a standard dry extract of rotenone. It is obtained by the extraction of the roots in solvent, and it has an average of 40% to 45% pure rotenone. It is this level of concentration in dry form which is supplied to our clients to be later chemically formulated and placed in solution in order to use it as a biological insecticide.
